Open Conversations about Ishigaki and Yaeyama
Yaeyama is a place that invites questions.
How is the region changing?
What should be preserved, and what might need to change?
How do local communities, tourism, agriculture, nature, and everyday life shape one another?
Some questions do not have simple answers.
The Yaeyama Insight Community, founded and run by Yasuyuki Hazama, is an open space for people who care about Ishigaki and Yaeyama to share perspectives, ask questions, exchange ideas, and think together about the region's future.
This is not intended to be a conventional travel forum.
It is a place for thoughtful conversations beyond sightseeing — about the places we live in, visit, work in, and care about.
Open Conversations
We have started with a simple discussion space called Open Conversations.
You are welcome to join whether you live in Yaeyama, have visited the islands, are planning a visit, or simply have an interest in the region.
You might want to:
share an observation or experience
ask a question about Ishigaki or Yaeyama
discuss an issue affecting the islands
share information, ideas, or resources
offer a different perspective
continue a conversation raised in one of our Stories or Issues
There is no need to be an expert.
Curiosity, respect, and a willingness to listen are enough.
A Place to Think Together
Yaeyama is not a static destination.
It is a living region, shaped by its history, natural environment, local communities, industries, visitors, and the choices being made today.
We hope this community can become a place where different perspectives can meet — including perspectives that may not always agree.
The aim is not to reach a single conclusion, but to better understand the region by talking with one another.

石垣島と八重山について、考え、語り合う場所
八重山という場所には、たくさんの問いがあります。
この地域は、これからどう変わっていくのか。
何を残していくべきなのか。
そして、何を変えていく必要があるのか。
観光、農業、自然、地域社会、そして私たちの日々の暮らしは、どのようにつながっているのでしょうか。
こうした問いには、簡単な答えがないものもあります。
Yaeyama Insightの創設者である玻座真保幸が立ち上げ、運営するYaeyama Insight Community は、石垣島や八重山を大切に思う人たちが、それぞれの視点や経験を共有し、問いを投げかけ、意見を交わしながら、この地域のこれからについて一緒に考えるためのオープンな場です。
ここは、いわゆる、一般的な旅行・観光情報を扱うコミュニティとは違います。
観光だけでは見えてこない、私たちが暮らし、訪れ、働き、関わる八重山について、さまざまな視点から話し合うための場所です。
Open Conversations
現在、Yaeyama Insight Communityの最初の対話の場として、Open Conversations を開設しています。
八重山に住んでいる方も、訪れたことがある方も、これから訪れる方も、あるいは八重山に関心を持っているだけの方も、どなたでも参加できます。
たとえば、
石垣島や八重山で感じたこと、気づいたことを共有する
地域についての疑問を投げかける
島で起きている問題について考える
情報やアイデア、参考になる資料を共有する
異なる視点や意見を紹介する
StoriesやIssuesで取り上げたテーマについて、さらに話を深める
といったことができます。
専門家である必要はありません。
好奇心を持ち、お互いの話に耳を傾け、敬意をもって対話すること。
それだけで十分です。
一緒に考えるための場所
八重山は、変わらない「観光地」ではありません。
歴史や自然環境、地域社会、産業、訪れる人々、そして今ここで行われているさまざまな選択によって、少しずつ形を変えていく、生きた地域です。
このコミュニティが、異なる立場や考え方が出会う場所になればと思っています。
ときには、意見が一致しないこともあるでしょう。
ここで目指しているのは、ひとつの答えを出すことではありません。
対話を通じて、お互いの視点を知り、八重山という地域をより深く理解していくことです。
